I’ve been training with Saskia and feel it’s time to say how
impressed I am with her training method and the progress I’ve made with both
my girls-Medium level Rhapsody and young Geisha who was just 3 ½ when I
started lessons with Saskia & thru her steady guidance is turning into a
truly ride able young horse. Both horses are more supple and straighter than they
otherwise would be. I have come to know Saskia as a friend as well as an instructor
and find her a truly lovely person. As a lower level instructor myself Saskia’s insights and
training patterns have come in most useful when I am helping others with
their basic training, & she is always there for me to bounce ideas off –
both with the training of my own horses and the training of others. Julie Fraser I have known Saskia since shortly after her arrival in New
Zealand and have always enjoyed training with her. She has an amazing ability
to “spot the problem” (and we all have them) and always comes up with a
solution that works or an alternative if the first one doesn’t. She has a
wonderful knowledge and her instructions are clear and easy to understand and
I appreciate her no nonsense approach, and equally her praise when given.
Saskia puts the welfare of the horse above all else. I look forward to my monthly lessons and the incentive they give
to progress month by month. I also use a number of her products both for
myself and my horse with positive results. She will be my trainer as long as
I am riding and she is teaching. Norma Parks List 2 judge Tapanui Tracey Johnson, Blenheim level 6 I have been training with Saskia for just
over a year now and she has helped me make the huge transition from level 3
to level 6. She quickly identified our issues and worked through them
systematically and with patience. She always trains with the horse’s welfare
in mind and for the long term future with no shortcuts. Saskia has brilliant exercises to improve
and help the horse’s strength and development and to correct each problem as
it arises. I thoroughly recommend training with Saskia. Tracey won in
2009/2010/2011 every main competition in the South Island level 5 and is now
competing level 6/7 and still winning! Tarnia Srhoy,
Advanced dressage rider My first lesson with Saskia was a revelation, I was finding
that I was literally stuck, Saskia’s lessons were like nothing I had
experienced before, in fact the saying “think outside the square” was exactly
how it felt. Suddenly I realised what the problems were; only it meant
going back to the beginning and correcting mistakes that had begun years
before. Saskia wasn’t prepared to move forward until each exercise was
perfected and showed the intended improvement. She has taught me the meaning
of preparing the horse for the future from the moment it is broken in. It has been an interesting and informative time and helped me
get Going Irish through to Advanced level and training Grand Prix movements.
Stephen Clark commented that Going Irish was correctly trained to European
standards and Hurbertus Hufendiek
also commented that he was the most correctly schooled horse that he had
ridden in New Zealand, so all credit to Saskia. I look forward to having more time under Saskia’s guidance in
the future with other horses. My Daughter, Larissa, has also had the benefit of Saskia’s lessons
and will continue to improve under her guidance with her Advanced Eventer,
Starburst. Larissa Srhoy 3*
Eventer, Level 4 dressage Saskia has been extremely beneficial for many of my improvements
in my top Eventing horse’s dressage. I discovered through her teaching the
benefits of working on the basics to establish the horse at the level
demanded of Intermediate/ Advanced dressage. I have found her exercises
interesting and rewarding to perform, both during the lesson and afterwards
as homework, with some fantastic improvements within the first couple of
weeks. I have now been able to apply the techniques learnt from
previous lessons on my younger horses, giving them the basics right from the
beginning, giving them the best opportunity possible to improve correctly in
their schooling. I
find Saskia a truly amazing trainer, who has a very special and unique
talent. (Having watched many trainers teaching my 3 daughters.) I wish Saskia
had been here then. I am in my early 50's and have ridden on and off most of
my life mostly Show Jumping, hunting and trekking. Nine months ago I decided
I wanted to learn to ride dressage. I have tried in the past but found it too
technical and just got confused. Saskia makes it so easy for me to understand
and I come away from each lesson feeling really confident in want I am doing
and wanting to do more. Whatever problem I have been working on with Saskia I
leave the lesson with a clear understanding and the problem fixed ready to go
onto the next stage. Saskia's ability to watch me for about 2 minutes and then
say do this or that and I can guarantee what she picks to work on is what I
am having trouble with, without telling her is quite incredible. The way
Saskia puts things so that you do understand and do get results is really
simple. No fighting or pulling your horse down , just nice relaxed confidence
building lesson's that make you feel great and that yes I can Learn to
ride dressage. Glenda McNutt.Otago Saskia is an excellent trainer. She explains everything in
a particular way, making sure that you fully understand each concept.
Each lesson she gives you exercises to use at home. I like the non-confrontational manner she has with the horses,
and their happiness and welfare are always put first. With Saskia's advice
I have been using many of her products and my horses look great, are
calmer and more ride able. I look forward to my lessons with Saskia. She is genuinely
interested in your progress and is happy to give advice at any time. I am an adult rider returning to competitive riding, after
following my daughters around the circuits for many years. I have a
Percheron/Thoroughbred cross gelding who is unschooled. I have ridden since I
was 7, but have never had the pleasure or the luxury of having lessons up
until now, so I am unschooled also. We are a combination that I can imagine
would be a challenge to teach. At least if the rider is skilled then the
tutor can work on the horse, and if the horse is schooled then the rider can
be worked on. In our case we both need help. Saskia is no less than brilliant as a teacher, and extremely
approachable and lovely as a person. In less than a dozen lessons with her,
and my horse started to bend, became consistently rounder, more flexible and
straight, started listening to my legs, and I believe is getting better with
each lesson we have. As a rider, I have learnt to sit up straight, keep my
legs in the right position, apply my aids correctly, and I am starting to
feel how my horse should be going. I love my lessons and always look forward
to them. I always finish them feeling elated. Saskia's lessons are very affordable and she comes regularly
which I think is so important. I feel that both my horse and I are very fortunate to have
Saskia as our riding instructor and look forward to a long association with
her. I would highly recommend her to anyone. Paula Bray, Otago I began training with Saskia 7 years ago after I had return
from competing in the UK. I feel fortunate enough to have found a
world class dressage trainer in New Zealand. Saskia has an amazing
feel towards her training methods and her ability to communicate this
knowledge towards riders of all levels is a credit to her. I have
been taking several young horses to Saskia and under her training both have
excelled in Eventing. Saskia is a goal orientated trainer and follows the
performance of the horses in competition. With her guidance I have
a clearer understanding of what and how much I should be asking of my
horses. Saskia’s products have also been extremely beneficial in
my horse’s well being and competition
results. Kate
